You know what? I’ve heard metal from across the world, and honestly speaking, I find the Asian metal scene the most innovative. Yet, the whole thing has been so criminally overlooked; barring a couple of exceptions that fucking it’s criminal!
The heavy metal scene around the world has largely been concentrated around Western Europe and North America. Barring a couple of exceptions, the rest of the globe just seems to have disappeared from the world!
That’s shit load of great music that is just being ignored and being underappreciated. Frankly, it’s just mindboggling. I’m just gonna rant some more before getting to the core of my whole argument. People keep inquiring what the best metal bands are, but no one really asks about the scenes.
Eastern Europe, South America, Africa, Asia, Oceania, all have their own unique scenes, and honestly pack a lot of flavour in comparison to their more popular counterparts in the West. Before I get down to it let it be known that I’m obviously not dissing on the popularity of North America and Europe in being the poster boys for metal; hell, they invented it!
We all started from bands like Black Sabbath, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Deep Purple, Slayer, Dream Theater, Amon Amarth, Opeth, Children Of Bodom, Meshuggah, Pantera, etc. You know, the classics, all of which emerged from here.
But this often willful ignorance, is just a bit too much. Why willful, my dear reader I hear you ask, or at least I think I hear you ask. Well, the ironic thing is, that despite being a welcoming community, metalheads for the majority are a very close minded breed opposed to change or exploration of anything outside their comfort zone.
But that’s a topic for another time. Here, I’ll mention the Asian countries with metal scenes with killer artistes that’ll blow your brains out. Now, some of these you may have probably heard, but most of it you haven’t. With all bullshit aside, here are my best metal bands from countries across Asia.
